I began this project with a curiosity about body gestures and behaviour. Is it possible for these to link to the past, present and future, perhaps relating to both personal memories and to the broader history of human evolution?
The art of gift exchange represents an ancient ritual embodied in everyday cultural and sociological behaviour. What is the significance of gift exchange in a society which emphasizes the individual, in which we live more or less independent lives? What denotes the value of a gift? Who do we exchange gifts with? Is there such as thing as a ‘pure gift’ - that which is given without a sense of obligation to give or a desire for reciprocation.
